Background. Identification of the formation of the stress state of the surface layer will develop a methodology for the calculation of residual stresses, taking into account the cutting forces, the temperature of the surface layer of the structural transformations of validity coolant, cooling rate, and control the distribution of residual stresses in the flat parts of the hard materials. Therefore the work raises the problem of investigating the patterns of formation of the stress state of the surface layer in face grinding flat round parts of hard materials. Conclusions. Studies of residual stresses and strains in thin flat parts round enabled the development of methodology for calculating the residual stress, management of their distribution and recommendations for sanding hard-alloy structural steels according to the conditions of grinding and cutting.
